RUSSELL BUCHAN
Russ Buchan Theater

In October 2010, Russ Buchan sponsored a production of a stage play at the American Theater Group in St Petersburg, Florida.

This brought back a reflection of Russ's previous involvement in the Arts.

“August:: Osage County”, won the 2008 Pulitzer

Prize for best play, takes place in modern-day

Oklahoma. It is about the Weston family members

who are intelligent and extremely sensitive,

and each has an issue they are trying to hide, defend

or deny. They also have the uncanny ability

of making one another absolutely miserable.

When a family crisis arises they gather to support

and attack one another. The play creates a highly

realistic portrait of a dysfunctional family as sharp

tongued family members go at each other attempting

to exhibit control thru criticism.

I can understand Russ Buchan’s involvement with American Theater as he was always interested in the arts. Listed below is a reprint of a column from the St Petersburg Times published January 21, 2001. This was soon after Russ Buchan had ordered our mother’s life support removed. Russ had also instructed the nurses at the nursing home not to administer any drugs to our mother as she lay in bed dying. Supposedly this was to speed the dying process. Amelia Buchan continued to live for seventeen days and died on February 1, 2001.
